Where this one stands

Ranger prep is not open yet, but the question that was holding it up is answered. The reference set is decided, and it is one publication: the Ranger Handbook, TC 3-21.76, dated 19 September 2025 and approved for public release. Every question will cite it by paragraph or by figure, and nothing else is allowed to supply an answer. What is left is the writing, and that has not started. The first sections will be patrols, troop leading procedures and the operation order, battle drills, and knots.

What it will be written against

Doctrine changes. Always check the current edition on armypubs before you test.

Common questions

When does Ranger prep open?

There is no date, and the plain reason is that none of it is written yet. The harder question, which publication governs, is now settled. Everything else waits on authoring, which is slow here because each item is checked back against the page it came from before it ships.

What will Ranger questions be written against?

The Ranger Handbook, TC 3-21.76, dated 19 September 2025 and approved for public release. It is the only publication a question here may cite. Study boards passed around at unit level are useful for working out what a student actually gets asked, but they never supply the answer, because several of them still reference the older 2017 handbook.

Will it cover what the phases are actually like?

That is planned, as reading, kept well away from anything scored. No publication describes what a day at Darby or Camp Rudder feels like, so that material cannot be cited the way a question is, and it will say so on its face. It is orientation, not a standard. Your own cadre is the authority on standards.

What should I study while this is closed?

If you have a promotion board coming, that prep is open here and driven by your own command’s memorandum of instruction. The EFMB bank is also open if you are medical.
